New version of the ECB’s website www.ecb.europa.eu

29 June 2004

The European Central Bank (ECB) launched a new version of its website on Saturday, 26 June 2004. The site’s design has been modernised and the contents restructured in order to make it more user-friendly.

In particular, the navigation structure has been improved and a more comprehensive search engine incorporated. Furthermore, most of the content can now be accessed by the visually impaired more easily, as many pages conform to level AAA of the Web Accessibility Initiative. Another major improvement is the range of languages in which information is accessible, with the two sections of particular interest to the general public – “The European Central Bank” and “Banknotes & Coins” – now available in all 20 official EU languages.

The ECB will continue its efforts to further develop and optimise its website as one of its main communication tools.
